Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Porter

Am I reading that right? Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Porter? OK, I get that Rogue made a new porter, which isn’t too unusual in itself. But it’s maple flavored. And bacon flavored. And it’s based on a doughnut. A voodoo doughnut.

Wait … what?

I know it sounds weird, but at least the bacon maple part is a trend. Other breweries have been making similar beers lately — Goose Island has a Maple Bacon Stout, and Funky Buddha’s Maple Bacon Coffee Porter was the frontrunner for this year’s weirdest beer name award before I heard about Rogue’s Voodoo Doughnut, which apparently gets its name (and, I would think, its flavors) from an Oregon doughnut shop with a super creepy mascot. I mean, look at him. Who wouldn’t want their kids buying sweets from some shady guy with a bone necklace and rumpled top hat? Seems legit to me.

Seriously though, this is a weird trend, but not so weird I wouldn’t try it. Many porters already have smokey flavors, so adding a bit of pastry sweetness might be quite tasty. Plus, bacon is so awesome it should be its own food group. I’m going to be searching for this beer. How ’bout you?

I seriously gained 5 lbs reading the name of this beer! I don’t think I want to try this one…but you’ve got to hand it to the brewer who created it!

Hmmm, donuts – like, bacon – like, maple flavor – ok, porter – definitely like, but all together – not so much I’m thinking
